Eligibility for the St. Martin de Porres CYO Program
All area youth are invited to participate in our instructional, intramural and travel programs even if not a parishioner of St. Martin de Porres. Please see below for eligibility rules specific to travel.
CYO Travel
Players are selected through tryouts and preference is given to registered parishioners of St. Martin and students of St. Martin School.
The county rule is that a travel team may have up to 3 non-parishioners, who live within the St. Martin parish boundary.
You must be a registered parishioner of St. Martin for at least one year prior to September to have parishioner status at travel try-outs.
All parishioners on St. Martin travel teams must be registered for religious education.
If you are a parishioner of St. Martin, but live outside the parish boundary, then we must receive documentation from the parish within that boundary that you are not a parishioner at that parish.
Catholics in adjoining parishes, such as St. Mary's Wappingers, Holy Trinity and St. Stanislaus, which don't have travel programs, are eligible to tryout for travel at St. Martin and will not be counted as an exception on the assigned team.
Players can only play intramurals or travel, not both, unless the parent is an intramural coach.
Catholic Youth Religious Education Requirement
One of the primary purposes of CYO is the spiritual development of Catholic youth. In keeping with this purpose, all Catholic children wishing to play basketball are required to actively participate in a religious education program. If a child is enrolled in a religious education program in another parish, a letter from that religious education director confirming enrollment must be received by the St. Martin's Athletic Director by September 30.
