Registration: Registration for the 2011-2012 CYO Basketball Season will be held in the school cafeteria:

Registration forms in excel are available for you to print and complete in advance and bring with you. Select the appropriate tab at the bottom for your grade.

Also see the 2011-2012 Introductory Letter to the 2011-2012 Season from Chris Fields, athletic director.

These forms include the dates for intramural evaluation and travel try-outs.

The following applies to the 2011-2012 CYO basketball season.

Eligibility: All area youth are invited to participate in basketball at St. Martin's.  However, there are size limits to our program.  Out of all applications received on the two registration days, priority will be given to:

  1. Parishioners of St. Martin de Porres
  2. Parishioners of neighboring Catholic parishes without basketball programs
  3. Players returning from last year
  4. Players new to the program

Attention Catholic YouthOne of the primary purposes of CYO is the spiritual development of Catholic youth.  In keeping with this purpose, all Catholic children wishing to play basketball must be enrolled in a religious education program.  If you are enrolled in a religious education program in another parish, a letter confirming registration from that religious education director must be turned in to the Athletic Director by October 2.  We cannot accept registration forms for Catholic children that are not enrolled in religious education. This does not apply to the new boy's high school league at Gold's Gym.

Children who register for religious education at St. Martin's also must regularly attend classes. If these children also participate in CYO basketball, then they may be suspended from playing CYO basketball. Our program requires that all Catholics provide proof of registration for religious education. Our parish enforces this at annual registration ... and our parish will enforce this throughout the CYO season.  Thus, any excessive, unexcused absences by CYO participants from St. Martin's religious education classes may result in removal from the CYO program until attendance improves and work is made-up.

Travel:  St. Martin's has traditionally fielded travel basketball teams at each grade level in grades 5 through 8 for boys, and combined teams in 5th-6th & 7th-8th grades for girls. Children from neighboring parishes are eligible if their parish does not have a travel basketball program. In addition to the above requirements, if tryouts reveal that there are not enough parishioner players to field a particular travel team, then non-parishioners (up to 3 per team per county rules) may be contacted to help form a team.

CYO High School Boys Intramural League: This league will start October 2011 at Gold's Gym from 9:00-11:30 a.m. and continue through the end of February 2012. Although there will be no formal practices during the week, there will be opportunity to play teams from other CYO parishes that have high school leagues. There will also be a community service component to this league (two events per season). JV and Varsity players are welcome, however they would need the approval of their high school coach.
